Thayer Carter is a painter and printmaker. For over 30 years he has traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia collecting images and ideas that inspire his artwork. Influenced by the natural and built environment, Carter captures the essence: from villagescapes of northern New Mexico to the North Atlantic. One can see the influence of early American Modernist painters such as Lyonel Feininger, Charles Sheeler, Lynd Ward and Rockwell Kent. Carter attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and The Art Students League, New York. His work has been exhibited in the United States including New York, Boston, Seattle, and Santa Fe with work published in the United States and Europe. Carter was Head Fabricator for the Exhibitions Division of the Museum of New Mexico for 18 years. He currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. |
